ALPACA FIBER FOR SALE

ALPACA
Alpaca is just about my favorite fiber to spin and knit. I love the 22 natural colors, and the way it takes dye. I also love its warmth, light handle and
the way it drapes. I carry Alpaca in raw form, washed and fluffed into a cloud, and roving. Small quanities of yarn may be available from time to time.
Most of these fibers are also produced right here on our farm.

Raw Alpaca:
This is typically the entire fleece from the Alpaca, and may contain some leg and belly hair, though I do try to remove all of the second
cuts, leg and belly hair. Alpacas do like to roll in the dirt to keep their fleeces free of insects, so there will always be vegetative
matter, dust and dirt in a raw fleece, unless the animals are coated year around (these were not). Usually most except for the largest
twigs will fall out during spinning. The best part of the fleece is the blanket, also known as "firsts". Seconds would include the soft
but shorter neck hair, some leg and belly. Thirds would be leg and belly hair which is coarser, and often stained or really dirty.
