FIBER FOR SALE

Welcome to the fiber sales at Royal Fibers. Take a minute to browse the many fibers we feature here. Come back often, as I will be adding fibers and handspun yarns periodically. If you do not see exactly what you want, do not hesitate to contact me at dcarpio@onramp113.org, and ask. I will see what I can do to produce or find what you are looking for.

It is our desire to provide a source for exotic fibers for the spinner and fiber artist. We will search the world over for luxery fibers for your (and my!) spinning pleasure.

ALPACA

Alpaca is just about my favorite fiber to spin and knit. I love the 22 natural colors, and the way it takes dye. I also love its warmth, light handle and the way it drapes. I carry Alpaca in raw form, washed and fluffed into a cloud, and roving. Small quanities of yarn may be available from time to time.

Most of these fibers are also produced right here on our farm, or at my sister's farm down the road.

MERINO CROSS LAMB, COMBED TOP

Rambo - $3.50/oz
From our Merino cross ram's hogget fleece, this is a beautiful Combed top processed at Yolo Wool Mills. This fiber has been carded then combed to align the fibers, making spinning a dream! This preparation makes spinning a worsted yarn much easier.

MERINO CROSS LAMB, Roving

Creamy white - $2.50/oz
From our yearling Merino crossed lambs, this is a beautiful Roving processed at Yolo Wool Mills. This fiber is creamy white, crimpy, and takes dyes beautifully. It has been carded then combed to align the fibers, making spinning a dream!

Wool Roving

CVM (California Varigated Mutant) cross

CVM comes in a whole array of colors. Every shearing results in slighly different colors as the animals change color as they age. Some get darker, and some start to silver.

These three lambs (now adults) produced all of the locks seen to the right. The "ruler" is 6".

Dark Chocolate with silver frosting - $1.25/oz
Blondie is the lamb pictured here on the left. Her fleece ranges from chocolate to blondish silver. Her sire is 1/2 Merino, 1/2 CVM, and her dam is a CVM.

Silver fleece with tan undertones - $2.00/oz
Leah is the Matriarch of our flock. She passed over the rainbow bridge in 2009, and is related as mother or grandmother to all of the CVM's. Her fleece is gone now, but several of her daughters are producing silver fleeces.

Dark Chocolate with silver frosting - $1.25/oz
Sheba is the lamb pictured here on the right, and sister to Blondie. Sheba's fleece ranges from chocolate to dark silver. Her sire is 1/2 Merino, 1/2 CVM, and her dam is a CVM.(Leah)

Darker Chocolate with silver frosting - $1.50/oz

Pilar and Pompeii are daughters of Sheba. Their fleece is even darker than their mother's...virtually black with the silver highlights.

Light moorit - $1.50/oz
This roving comes from a mix of several moorit and silver lambs. It is a lovely soft silvery tan.

MERINO

MERINO CROSS

Call for availability - $3.00/oz
I have a small amount of dyed Merino cross lamb's roving dyed with natural dyes. Limited quantities are available in indigo, cochineal, prickly pear, peach leaves, onion skins, eucalyptus, logwood and madder.

Creamy white - $1.25/oz
Rebecca is one of my sister's lambs out of her 1/2 Merino ram and Sarah, the suffolk whose fleece is listed below. Her fleece is creamy white, has a softer, more open crimp than the Suffolks, and takes dyes beautifully. Her wool would be great for making warm, soft socks, sweaters or jackets.

COLUMBIA CROSS

Creamy white - $1.25/oz
Junior and Hannah were surprise lambs out of one of my sister's first bottle lambs, Rachael. Their fleece is creamy white, crimpy, and takes dyes beautifully. I have used his wool to make warm soft socks.

SUFFOLK

Creamy white - $1.50/oz
Sarah was one of my sister's first bottle lambs, and the mother or grandmother of the Suffolk Cross lambs whose fleeces follow. Her fleece is creamy white, crimpy, and takes dyes beautifully. I have used her wool to make warm bouncy socks. Sarah passed over the rainbow bridge this year, but her offspring carry on....

SUFFOLK CROSS

Creamy white - $1.50/oz
This pin drafted roving is from our 2009 crop. The ewes had not been shorn in 2008, so the staple is longer than you would generally expect from Suffolks. These ewes are not coated, and there is some vm, but much less than I had expected. Yolo Wool Mill did an excellent job skirting, scouring and carding these fleeces.
